Aesthetic Meaning of Research-Based Performance in Dance
This study examines how to use and rearrange the results of research led by choreographers to explore possibilities for new works of art. In addition, the necessity of this study is to help the understanding of existing works based on research. It archives the information and materials and recontextualizes reproducible facts to open artistic interpretation. Therefore, these kind of works also create a space that is organically combined and newly arranged while interacting with the audience. The choreographer's research work is continuously reinterpreted and explores the possibilities behind it to create a public discourse by inserting it into the historical and social context. In addition, this study discussed dance works performed in Korea in the sense of combining theory and practice to interpret them. For comparison and substitution, this study exemplified such a foreign choreographer or a theatre collective as Boris Chamatz and Rimini Protocol and the collaboration between Seol-young Oh and Hong-seok Jang in Korea.
