The purpose of this study is to investigate the value and necessity of dance classes by analyzing the experiences of middle school students who participated in dance classes as a customized creative physical education curriculum selected by students. For this purpose, 50 students and 3 teachers who participated in dance classes at Y Middle School in Gyeonggi-do were selected using a purposive sampling method, and data from students' open-ended questionnaires and interviews with teachers were collected. The results of content analysis and inductive analysis were as follows. First, the reason they chose it was because of their interest in dance and new experiences through challenges. Second, the good thing about dance class was physical change and maintaining health. Third, what was difficult about dance class was the limitations of physical movement. The most fun thing about dance class was the ability to express through creating choreography and participating in performances. Fourth, recognition of the value of dance classes is the diversity of dance and expansion of art. Fifth, the value of dance classes that teachers think are classes that bring about change in students and classes that enhance students’ interest and sense of accomplishment.
